The tourists are in for a treat with the National Museum and the Zoological Gardens in Dahiwala. The favourite hangout for the locals and tourists alike is the Galle Face Green in Colombo and is a sight to behold with the tall beautiful buildings surrounded by the bewitching Indian Ocean. A serene, must visit beauty is the Viharamaha Devi Park with its tall flowering trees in full blood during April and is a quiet haven in the bustling city. Colombo is however not just old world charm, it has posh shopping malls and the famous Pettah market and it truly is a shoppers' paradise.

From Colombo, we travel to Pinnewala today where you can visit the elephant orphanage.
Located in the Sabaragamuwa province of Sri Lanka, Pinnewala is quite close to Kegalle town. The village is known as Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage for its orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for Asian elephants. It houses the largest herd of captive elephants in the world and is visited by scores of local and foreign nationals on a daily basis. Watching the baby elephants while they feed and bathe is a grand sight in itself. The orphanage was launched to provide a lifeline to the orphaned baby elephants and adult elephants lost in the wilderness.
En route to your transfer from Pinnawela to Kandy visit the famous spice garden.
Kandy is a popular hill capital of Sri Lanka known for the charm of the beautiful hills that surround it, the valleys, rivers, lakes and waterfalls. Kandy is the UNESCO heritage city and the cultural center of the island. Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the Tooth houses the sacred relic of the Lord Buddha. The Royal Botanical Gardens which has around 4000 species of plants awaits you today. Main Buddhist monasteries Malwatta and Asgiriya, and many other attractions including the arts and crafts centers await you in Kandy.

A divine boat ride in Madu river and a visit to the turtle hatchery awaits you today.
MADU RIVER - Madu Ganga Estuary is connected by two narrow channels to the Randombe Lake. It forms a 915 hectare complex wetland system encompassing 64 mangrove islets. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) after a detailed survey has identified that there are less than major wetland vegetation types supporting over 300 plant species and 248 species of vertebrates. THis remarkable diversity has led to it being classified under RAMSAR Convention on Wetlands in 2003. TURTLE HATCHERY - The turtle eggs collected by the villagers and fisherfolk are purchased by the Kosgoda hatchery are kept in sandy pens until they are hatched. Where else can you see five species of turtles-Green Turtles (Cheloniamydas), Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelysimbricata), Loggerhead Turtle (Carettacaretta), Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelyscoriacea) and Olive Ridley Turtle (Lepidochelysolivacea)? The newly hatched ones are kept in seawater tanks and released to the sea in the night. This Hatchery alone has released more than 1,750,000 young turtles to the sea. An endowment by the Hasselblad Estate was responsible for the establishment of this hatchery.
